InfoWorld Verizon's says 4G LTE service back to normal
Verizon Wireless said its nationwide 4G LTE network service returned to normal Wednesday night after a technical issue was resolved. In a statement issued shortly before 9 a.m. ET today, Verizon gave no explanation for the problem that it said developed late Tuesday and was resolved by Wednesday evening. Customers mainly reported intermittent or unavailable 4G services or said their 4G devices were operating at 3G speeds, about one-tenth as fast as 4G.

Clearwire (NASDAQ: CLWR) and Sprint Nextel (NYSE: S) announced Wednesday that the companies will combine their broadband wireless units to create a $14.55 billion mobile wireless communications company to provide internet access, phone service, movies, games and a variety of other broadband wireless data services. The new company, which will retain Clearwire's name, will continue developing a mobile network based on WiMax technology, which promises much faster speeds than the latest 3g cellular networks.

Sisvel International, a specialist company in managing intellectual property and maximizing the value of patent rights, has bought more than 450 patents originally filed by Nokia. 350 of these cover essential parts of the 2G (GSM), 3G (UMTS/WCDMA) and 4G (LTE) technologies. The other 100 or so cover video encoding optimization technologies. The acquired patents remain subject to certain prior agreements and Nokia is pre-licensed for all the patents as part of the acquisition.
