Some product groups are approaching saturation, but there will be a number ofgrowth areas including 3G phones, smartphones, netbooks, Blu-Ray DVD players and high-endnotebooks.
Computers
Computers accounted for around 51% ofTaiwanese consumer electronics spending in2008. BMI forecasts Taiwanese computerhardware sales of US$4.5bn in 2009, upslightly from the previous year. With PCpenetration above 70%, CAGR for the2008-2013 period will be around 2%, butthere will be growth areas in multimedia andentertainment notebooks and netbooks.
AV
AV devices accounted for around 34% ofTaiwanese consumer electronics spending in2008. Taiwan’s domestic video, audio andgaming device market was estimated atUS$2.9 bn. The market is expected to growat a CAGR of 5% between 2008-2013, to avalue of US$3.8bn in that year. Portableaudio devices such as MP3/MP4 playersaccount will continue to sell well, whilefast-growing video applications includeLCD TV sets and Blu-Ray DVD players.
Mobile Handsets
Taiwan mobile handset sales accounted foraround 15% of Taiwanese consumerelectronics spending in 2008. Total handsetsales are expected to grow at a CAGR ofabout 1% to 7.3mn units in 2013, with themarket driven mainly by replacements aspenetration is already above 100%.
