A Bluetooth Broadband Network?

Original Post: Broadband (eGroups Msg.)    Date: 2000-08-14

Question

What is the capability of Bluetooth to deliver broadband? I.e. is it possible to enable Bluetooth wireless connectivity to replace cable between DVD set top boxes and the TV set or PC

Answer

Although BT is known to have 1Mbps transmission rate, this is the symbol rate not the realistic file transfer rate. Also the Master-Slave configuration makes BT not a good real-time, high data rate wireless connectivity compared to other high data rate system.

This is not a fault with Bluetooth itself , since it is intended to do relative low-speed wireless connections , with low cost. For the above application  mentioned, Wireless LAN 802.11b might be better suited.
