Wireless
Internet Access over GSM and UMTS
The book provides a comprehensive investigation of the performance
and problems of the TCP/IP protocol stack, when data is transmitted over
GSM, GPRS and UMTS. It gives an introduction to the protocols used for
Internet access today, and also the Wireless Application Protocol (WAP).
The basics of GSM, GPRS and UMTS are given, which are necessary for
understanding the main topic, TCP performance over GSM, GPRS and UMTS.

The GSM
Network: The GPRS Evolution: One Step Towards UMTS
GSM (Global System for Mobile Communications) is a digital cellular
standard formerly know as Groupe Speciale Mobile used in over 100
countries. GSM networks offer a data transmission service but the output
is limited to a maximum of 9.6 kbits/s. GPRS (General Packet Radio
Service) enables effective Internet services access with an output of up
to 115 kbits/s, allowing faster communications.

GSM
Networks: Protocols, Terminology and Implementation
This practical book provides an extremely comprehensive, up-to-date,
and easy-to-understand treatment of the entire GSM network and the
signaling methods of its terrestrial interfaces. You learn how to analyze
network problems, what measurements you have to take to solve them, and
where in a scenario you will find the desired information or parameter.
The book introduces you to all the interfaces between the GSM subsystems,
starting with the Abis- and Air- Interface and continuing on to VLR's,
HLR's and MSC's within the Network Switching Subsystem (NSS). You learn
about the various signaling standards or methods used in GSM, including
TCAP and MAP and how to apply this knowledge when working with GSM
networks.

Principles
and Applications of GSM
GSM and its derivatives have become the world's #1 wireless
technology, enabling users to roam across most of Europe, the Middle East,
North Africa, East Asia, and even much of the U.S. - all with one number
and one bill. Principles & Applications of GSM is the first complete
technical guide to this remarkable technology. Vijay K. Garg and Joseph E.
Wilkes begin by introducing basic principles that apply to any wireless
technology. Next, they present GSM in depth, covering everything you need
to know to design and implement a GSM system.
