Jabra
Jabra is well known for its earphones for communications. They were
showing a wireless Bluetooth headset. Their product will be out in the
September/November timeframe. However, they admit being late to market by
about 6 months. The headset goes into a docking station for recharge. It
runs for 2 hours on a battery charge and the battery is expected to last 2
years. The retail price at introduction will be 400DM going to 300DM a
number of months later.
The most interesting assessment came from their estimate of the
Bluetooth market based on the cell phone. (1) - within 1 year most new
phones will include Bluetooth (2) - within 1 year it is expected that 30% -
40% of the phones without Bluetooth will upgrade to cordless headsets.
JABRA's New
Bluetooth Headset Provides Ultimate Hands-Free Operation (3/02) At
$99, the JABRA FreeSpeak Designed for Mobile Professionals and High-Tech
Aficionados Who Want to "Cut the Cord". JABRA Corp., the nation's
leading provider of hands-free communication products, introduces the JABRA
FreeSpeak, its new Bluetooth wireless technology headset. The FreeSpeak
works with the latest Bluetooth phones and with many other mobile phones
through a Bluetooth adapter. JABRA plans to ship FreeSpeak to retail
stores nationwide this September. The MSRP for the FreeSpeak headset
and charger is $99; $179 for the headset and Bluetooth
adapter/charger.

GN
Netcom Receives World's First Bluetooth Version 1.1 Certification for 2nd
Generation Wireless Headset (1/02)
Second "Bluetooth first" for GN Netcom, an innovator of
wireless headset technology. Sleek, new hands-free device to be available
from major mobile phone manufacturer early this year and under GN Netcom's
own JABRA brand by mid-year 2002. GN Netcom announces that it has received
the world's first Bluetooth Version 1.1 headset certification for its new
second-generation headset using Bluetooth wireless technology. Targeted at
the hands-free mobile phone market, the headset is the second GN Netcom
headset to be Bluetooth certified. The product will be available from a
major mobile phone manufacturer early this year and under the JABRA brand,
GN Netcom's mobile telephony consumer division, by mid-year 2002.
GN Netcom continues to lead the industry in receiving Bluetooth
certification. In September 2000, GN Netcom became the first headset
manufacturer to receive Bluetooth 1.0b certification for its professional
headset with Bluetooth wireless technology -- the GN 9000 BT. Leveraging
its expertise in acoustical and mechanical design, GN Netcom partnered with
Denmark-based RTX Telecom, the company's preferred development partner for
Bluetooth wireless technology solutions, to design the electronics, and
U.K.-based CSR, for the Bluetooth BlueCore Chip.
EE Times Developer
beats others to market with Bluetooth headset (10/00)
A Nashua, N.H., company has beat the glamour players to the punch in
delivering the first commercially available, fully qualified Bluetooth
product, the GN 9000 Digital headset. Its developer, GN Netcom, has the
distinction of preceding to market even Bluetooth founding member Ericsson,
which is still mired in the qualification process. The headset, which uses
a chip set from Digianswer, was launched at the PCIA GlobalXChange
Conference and Exposition held in Chicago. Other hardware offerings
abounded, including a fountain of Springboard-compatible modules for
Handspring's Visor PDA. But wireless Internet services, in the form of
applications management, delivery and synchronization, stole the show.
