Research and Education Network (HPWREN) |
The High Performance Wireless Research and Education Network (HPWREN)
team is creating, demonstrating, and evaluating a non-commercial,
prototype, high-performance, wide-area, wireless network in San
Diego county. The NSF-funded network includes backbone nodes on the
UC San Diego campus and a number of "hard to reach" areas
in San Diego county. Not only is HPWREN used for network analysis
research, but the network also provides high-speed Internet access
to field researchers from several disciplines and educational
opportunities for rural Native American learning centers and
schools. |

Internet Access device allowing hoteliers and other companies
charge for wireless internet access. Controls everything from
allowing access to surfing the web for a specified time.
The WSG - 5000 solves
connectivity problems by offering instant Internet access for guests
with no settings to change, no IP addresses to alter, and no subnets
or gateways to negotiate to properly configure a guest's laptop for
the facility's network that means without changing network settings,
even if they have static IP addresses pre-set. Users simply plug in
to the network and they are immediately connected.

Public WLAN services (PDF,
1/03) Wireless LAN (WLAN) is a clear success in homes and
offices around the world with a substantial increase in WLAN
equipment sales last year. Convincing users to do in public, what
they now are doing in the privacy of their homes and offices, is
however something completely different. In a new report leading
wireless advisor Northstream studies the opportunities and obstacles
for public WLAN businesses. The global WLAN equipment market grew
around 70% last year with revenues reaching $2.1 billions. An
increasing fraction of companies in North America, Asia and Europe
are using it as an integral part of their office IT infrastructure.
There is however an important difference between the success of WLAN
in offices and homes compared to the business opportunities
presented by public WLAN in cafés, airports, hotels and other
hotspots... |

Hotel White Paper (DOC, 2/03)
This document looks at some of the issues that will be faced when
taking a rich media wireless solution from a single unit in an
office environment to a full production environment where a hotel is
filled with these devices, where anything up to 75% of the units
might be in use at any time.
Communications Options for a Repeater
Site (DOC, 2/03) Using 802.11 technology, it is possible to
extend a network between two locations without a significant
expenditure. Using this technology should allow a link with a
guaranteed throughput of over 2 mBit/sec, whilst using 112 bit
encryption. |
