BlueRF :Interface Protocol between the Baseband IC and the RF (Radio) Unit

Original Post: Interface Between BaseBand and RF unit (eGroups Msg. 177)    Date: Tue Jan 11, 2000

There is currently no standard interface protocol between the Baseband IC and the RF unit (the radio layer unit), defined in the specification.

However some Bluetooth Working Group members (Ericsson, Nokia Mitel, Intersil and Philips) have prepared the BlueRF or just (blue rf) specification for standard interface between Baseband and RF. Current version is V0.9 and it will support two physical connection method for the interface. they are:

  • 8 line interface for bidirectional port
  • 14 line interface for  unidirectional port.

You can reference Nokia's white paper for 8 line interface info at the following url: http://www.forum.nokia.com/developers/bluetooth/download/srfbb1.pdf.

However you won't find the actual BlueRF specs on the internet, as they are not public . You have to sign an NDA with one of the respective companies to view them. You have to contact ARM to enter the BlueRF group : they are coordinating the efforts on the BlueRF standard.
