Access Code Sensitivity To BER

Original Post: access code sensitivity to BER  (SIG Forum)    Date: 2000-08-16

The access code precedes every baseband packet , and is used to determine what packet is destined for what piconet. However it is not protected (by such methods as FEC , CRC etc.)

Question

The access code is rather long (68- 72 bits) , how sensitive is it to high bit error channels. I.e. how many bits in the access code can be "wrong" for it to still be accepted by a slave as correct?

Answer

This is not implicitly covered in the Bluetooth Spec. It is up to the designer to specify how many bit errors will be tolerated , rather than how many bit errors the access code can tolerate

Note: See also 'Error Protection for the Access Code'
