Receiver Sensitivity/Block Error Rate (BER)

Original Post: Receiver Sensitivity (SIG Forum)    Date: 2000-03-16

Within Bluetooth the sensitivity level (-70dBm) is defined for a raw BER (Block Error Rate) of 0.1%.

In fact to be able to substain the maximun throughput in DH5 mode (that is to say 432Kb/s full duplex or 721/56 assymetric) the RF device must be specified for a BER of 10-6 (instead of 10-3). This impacts both the sensitivity and the phase noise of the device. Check with the RF device supplier if he can guarantee this BER.
