Useful resources for Infrared Remote Controls and infrared data
technologies.
Infrared (IR) remote controls are most commonly used for devices such as
TVs, VCRs, DVDs, home theater systems, etc. Repeaters can be used to extend
the range.

Founded in 1993 as a non-profit organization, IrDA is an International
Organization that creates and promotes interoperable, low cost infrared
data interconnection standards that support a walk-up, point-to-point user
model. The standards support a broad range of appliances, computing and
communications devices.

With most pieces of consumer electronics, from camcorders to stereo
equipment, an infrared remote control is usually always included.Video and
audio apparatus, computers and also lighting installations nowadays often
operate on infra-red remote control. The carrier frequencyof such infra-red
signals is typically in the order of around 36 kHz. The control codes are
sent in serial format modulated to that 36 kHz carrier frequency (usually
by turning the carrier on and off). There are many different coding systems
in use, and generally different manufacturers use different codes and
different datarates for transmission... |

Today, the remote control for electronic devices has become very
ordinary. The widespread use of remote control units for TVs, VCRs, and
HiFi has been followed by its use for air conditioners, opening doors, and
portable player control, etc. So, why not doing the same with the
computer? Sometimes, the only interaction between the computer and us is
the pressing of the Up/Down or PageUp/Down keys, as in when reading a huge
file. It would be better to be able to do a presentation without having to
press a key on the computer everytime a new slide is presented. Recently,
the MP3 audio files and DVD players have triggered the need to find a more
friendly way to control the computer. |
