This IDC study tracks and forecasts the worldwide market attach rate (aka penetration rate) for communications, multimedia, and security interfaces and technologies shipping in desktop and portable PCs from 2011 through 2016. The forecast period covered in this document will be a tumultuous one for interfaces and embedded technologies. "Some are coming to their conclusions, while other newer technologies will emerge," says Linn Huang, senior research analyst, IDC's Clients and Displays. As the personal computing experience moves toward wider integration with surrounding devices, interfaces will play a critical role in how our future PCs are designed.
