Advertising’s Challenges and Opportunities (5/03)
Rapidly developing wireless networking technology and the
growing mobile-device user base have fueled interest in
activities that deliver ads to mobile devices over a wireless
network. Studies by wireless media research companies indicate
that delivering permission-based alerts to wireless phones
captures consumers' attention, drives response actions, and
builds brand awareness. Wireless devices are accessible,
personal and location aware.
Proteus Viewers Decide
the Best and Worst commercials of the big game on January 26
(1/03) Sprint and McKee Wallwork Henderson Advertising
Launch the ADBOWL. Sprint joins forces with McKee Wallwork
Henderson Advertising to announce the ADBOWL, the real-time,
interactive advertising ranking system for consumers. Powered
by Proteus, Openwave Systems, and FatCow, the ADBOWL will
debut during the championship football game on January 26.
Using a PCS Phone or by going to www.adbowl.com
viewers can judge the commercials by casting votes for their
favorite ads. The winners and losers will be announced at the
end of the game. Ads during this event have become a
pop-culture phenomena, and many viewers watch the game as much
for the ads as for the football.

Companies Use E-mail via Mobile Phones for Campaigns (9/02)
A common way to answer gift offering campaigns is to write
your name, address and answers to questions on a post card and
mail the card, but e-mail is also gaining momentum in this
application. Currently, the e-mail capability of mobile phones
is increasingly employed in such applications instead of post
cards in Japan. For example, a popular magazine for young
women accepts e-mail applications through mobile phones for
its audience survey that offers prizes. Orix Credit Corp.
provides melodies for ringing calls in return for document
requests via mobile phone.
Siemens Location-based
mobile marketing – more than advertising on mobile phones
(3/02) In collaboration with the company beamgate mobile
commerce, the Siemens Information and Communication Mobile
Group is offering a comprehensive solution for mobile
location-based marketing: m.traction LocalAds. It allows
carriers and service providers to take consumers’ present
whereabouts into account when advertisements are sent over
mobile phones. Mobile services can be enhanced with additional
information relevant to specific situations. If, for instance,
someone on a ski slope calls up the local weather forecast in
the morning via SMS, they will automatically be given
additional information about discotheques or sports shops in
the area where they are staying.
